Connecting Research and Advocacy: EOS Network at the IES Congress 2025 The International Eosinophilic Society (IES) Congress 2025 brought together nearly 300 experts from 26 countries to share the latest findings and developments in eosinophilic research and care. EOS Network was honoured to attend and represent the global patient voice at this prestigious event. Rothenberg, Director of the Division of Allergy and Immunology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and leading expert in eosinophilic disorders, at IES Congress 2025 Scientific Highlights Professor Marc Rothenberg's talk on IES progress and achievements Key sessions explored eosinophils across multiple systems, including the epithelium, genetic factors, intestinal immunity, and tissue repair mechanisms. Speakers shared new insights into eosinophil development, heterogeneity, and their emerging roles in immunomodulation and type 2 inflammation. Additional sessions addressed mast cells, basophils, and technological advancements in the field. Dr Marc Rothenberg reflected on advances in the understanding of eosinophilia, tracing the shift from viewing eosinophils as short-lived, enigmatic blood cells to recognising them as long-lived, tissue-dwelling cells with specialised functions shaped by their local environment. Another highlight included a retrospective on the evolution of anti-eosinophil therapeutics: from the discovery of IL-5 as an eosinophil-stimulating factor (1986) to the approval of biologics for eosinophilic asthma, COPD, HES, and EGPA (2015–2025), marking a decade of therapeutic milestones. Patient Voice and Early-Career Inspiration IES Congress Presentation slide featuring distinguished guests. EOS Network was proud to be a distinguished guest alongside APFED, The Lancet, and other notable organisations. Hearing the patient perspective acknowledged during the event reinforced the urgent need for holistic care. The Congress welcomed over 100 early-career participants, injecting fresh energy, ideas, and commitment into eosinophilic research. Lively debates, often delivered with humour, fostered an open and collaborative spirit that encouraged innovation and global connection. EOS Network engaged with researchers from the US, Austria, Belgium, Italy, Korea, and beyond. Recognition and Collaboration We were delighted to meet researchers who had already benefited from EOS Network’s resources and platforms. Martina Votto, MD, PHD. Ospedale Sacro Cuore Di Gezu Fatebenefratelly, University of Pavia, Italy: "After joining EOS Network, I was able to share my research and connect with a physician who treats patients with eosinophilic-associated diseases. Thanks to EOS Network, physicians can build connections like that and share ideas on how to help patients." We celebrated: Joseph Jorssen and Glenn Van Hulst, recipients of the Gerald J. Gleich Award, for discoveries in eosinophil biology. Dr. Steven Ackerman, awarded the prestigious 2025 Paul Ehrlich Award. Professor Marc Rothenberg reflected on the achievements of his presidency before officially passing the gavel to the new IES President, Professor Allison Fryer. Over 120 abstracts were presented, offering insights into eosinophil biology, immunopathology, biologic treatment responses, and other areas, highlighting the field's expanding scope. Hear from Prof. Praveen Akuthota In this short video, Prof. Praveen Akuthota (UC San Diego), discusses the benefits of joining the EOS Network as a professional. Our Mission EOS Network is a UK-based charity with a global reach. We are led by lived experience, guided by a voluntary global medical expert advisory board and governed by skilled trustees. We are also a platform for researchers to connect, collaborate, and amplify their impact. Today, our website informs 5000 new visitors a month, reaching over 160 countries, enhancing global research and knowledge exchange. Learn more about what we do here.
